The Canary D-Pad was developed in response to the rising worldwide epidemic of diabetes. The challenge was to crate a subtle intervention in the lifestyle of ordinary people so that they are encouraged to check and become aware of the symptoms of diabetes. We began by studying and exploring the everyday situations in which testing might occur, when blood or other bodily fluids are available. The concept of a sanitary towel which offers the user a chance to test themselves for diabetes arose and was considered the least invasive and most useful test. The design can be produced using conventional sanitary pad manufacturing machines, the test is not conclusive but can give a warning signal and raise awareness.
The patent for this design has been filed.
