Low Chair Concept

A response to the departure point “a chair that is also” and based on the observation of a cross- legged seating posture, with a small elevation from the floor. This chair is designed in two parts, a low raise platform and a removable padded seat. this means that it functions as a foot stool, coffee table and floor cushion, a versatile and comfortable seat. The textured surface prevents the cushion from slipping, along with  a velcro strap that passes through holes integrated into the pattern.

The manufacture of this chair uses CNC Routed birch plywood, with a simple assembly. This technique is one I worked with at Unto This Last. The cushion is fabric and foam in a standard shape. The pattern of the cushion could be stamped in acrylic using the routed patterned surface of the stool itself.

This is currently a work in progress, my development sketches and 1/5 scale sketch model in card are shown, allowing me to iteratively develop a functional design.
